A lower unit price does not create value if a telescopic pole bends, breaks or becomes unstable in use. When one customer shared exactly that problem, UPSILON began with the product itself—not a sales pitch.

What started with an introductory email in December 2023 became a technical development project and, ultimately, a long-term supply partnership. The turning point was a practical process: inspect the customer’s existing pole, identify the weak points, compare it with a more robust design and recommend a locking structure suited to the application.

01 · The challenge

Existing poles were bending and breaking too easily

The customer was already importing telescopic poles from another manufacturer in China. However, the products were prone to bending and breaking during use. These failures affected durability, user confidence and the customer’s after-sales risk.

The customer needed more than another quotation. They needed to understand why the existing design was underperforming and whether a more reliable alternative could be produced at scale.

“The real brief was not simply to supply a pole. It was to identify the causes of failure and develop a more dependable structure.”

02 · Sample-led analysis

Turning a customer sample into clear engineering evidence

UPSILON asked the customer to send an existing pole for evaluation. Our team then compared it with a similar product already manufactured by our factory. Rather than making general claims about quality, we documented the differences in four areas that directly influence strength, stability and consistency.

01

Raw materials

We reviewed material choices and how they could affect strength, rigidity and service life.

02

Tube wall thickness

We compared wall thickness to identify possible causes of bending under load.

03

Plastic components

We examined the connection parts and locking structure for weak or unstable points.

04

Surface treatment

We assessed finish consistency, appearance and manufacturing quality.

DOCUMENTED COMPARISON

Customer sample vs. UPSILON reference product

These original review photos show the telescopic poles extended side by side during our evaluation. They helped our team compare the tube sections, joint positions and structural differences under the same conditions.

A comparison the customer could verify

We organized the findings into a side-by-side report with product photos and technical observations. This gave the customer a clear basis for evaluating performance—not just competing prices.

03 · The solution

Upgrading to a more stable Clip Lock structure

Our product quality and manufacturing standards resulted in a higher quotation than the customer’s existing source. Instead of competing on price alone, we focused on the cost of product failure and recommended a new Clip Lock design that better addressed the customer’s core concerns.

The upgraded structure was designed to provide:

  • More secure locking between telescopic sections
  • Stronger support during extension and use
  • Reduced risk of unwanted slipping or movement
  • More consistent, dependable operation

04 · From sampling to production

Refining two models through repeated quotation and sampling

Reaching the right solution required several rounds of quotation, sample evaluation and specification adjustment. UPSILON coordinated the customer’s feedback with the factory at each stage, keeping the discussion focused on function, manufacturability and reliable repeat production.

MODEL 023–16 ft

More compact extension range using the same stable locking concept.

After the design and samples were confirmed, the customer selected both models for production.

05 · The result

From a product failure problem to stable repeat supply

The customer proceeded with the order and now purchases both telescopic pole models on a regular basis. What began as a cold introduction developed into a stable, long-term supply relationship built on transparent comparison, responsive sampling and an application-focused design recommendation.

The customer gained

A more stable product structure, clearer quality evidence and a supplier able to support technical development.

UPSILON demonstrated

That engineering support and reliable manufacturing can create more value than the lowest initial unit price.

Why this project matters

A better telescopic pole starts with better questions

Material, tube dimensions, lock geometry and end-use loads all influence how a telescopic pole performs. By examining the complete system, UPSILON can help customers improve an existing product or develop a new one around a specific application.

If your current poles bend, break or lose stability, our team can review the design and explore a more suitable structure.
